Reason for the Shortage
    • American Regent is not currently marketing magnesium sulfate which has been unavailable since late 2012.
    • Amneal has magnesium sulfate injection available.
    • Baxter has magnesium sulfate injection available.
    • BBraun did not provide a reason for the shortage.
    • Exela discontinued magnesium sulfate vials in mid-2023.
    • Fresenius Kabi has magnesium sulfate injection available.
    • Sagent did not provide a reason for the shortage.
    • Sun has magnesium sulfate injection available.
    • Pfizer had magnesium sulfate injection on shortage due to increased demand. The 500 mg/mL 20 mL vials were discontinued in August 2020.
    • WG Critical Care has magnesium sulfate injection available.
    • X-Gen discontinued magnesium sulfate in April 2018.

    • Pfizer has magnesium sulfate 500 mg/mL 10 mL syringes on back order and the company estimates a release date of May 2024. The 500 mg/mL 20 mL vials are available in limited supply. The 10 mg/mL 100 mL premixed bags in 24 count and 50 count are available in limited supply.
    • Sagent has magnesium sulfate 40 mg/mL 100 mL premixed bags on back order and the company cannot estimate a release date. There are short-dated 50 mL bags available with an expiration date of October 2024.
    • WG Critical Care has magnesium sulfate 80 mg/mL 50 mL premixed bags on back order and the company cannot estimate a release date.
