Carteolol Pregnancy Warnings

Carteolol has been assigned to pregnancy category C by the FDA. Animal studies have revealed evidence of increased fetal resorption and decreased fetal weights when rabbits and rats were given doses 1,052 and 5,264 times the maximum recommended human dose (on a per kg basis), respectively. There are no controlled data in human pregnancy. Carteolol should only be given during pregnancy when benefit outweighs risk.
